The Swap Zone Summer Season Roundup

Sep 22nd 2014, 14:16, by Swapsity

We've just come off of our best spring and summer yet. It may not have been the sunniest or the longest but it sure was the swappiest! We hosted four awesome swap events in four months, creating countless opportunities for our swappers to find new favourites, share old treasures and save their hard earned money.

High five to everyone that came out to see us! You continue to be an integral part of the swapping movement and to our ever-growing community. We love seeing your smiling faces peeking over the stacks of swappables you bring to each event. Your enthusiasm is not lost on us and the volunteers that greet you at the Swap Zone.

This year, we kicked off the season with a 3-day duo themed swap at the Green Living Show in April. It started with a good ol' two day media swap, followed by a day of swapping fabulous fashion accessories. Later on, we debuted at the beautiful Harbourfront Centre in June, followed by a Book Swap at ShareFest in July which brought Toronto's Sharing Economy organizations together under one roof.

Last, but certainly not least, was our four-time return to the always popular Live Green Toronto Festival. What a rush! Lots of work was put into each event, but with the love and appreciation we receive from you swappers it's more than worth it.

To date, our swappers have saved $250,000 by swapping their personal library items. That's right, a quarter of a million dollars! It's so powerful what can be done when a community comes together to help each other. To all the swappers that joined us this spring and summer, veterans and rookies alike, thank you! We were so glad to be your host.

Also, a big thank you to our terrific volunteers for keeping the Swap Zone running smoothly and the energy up!

One of our veteran swappers, Jim, got a special surprise at the Live Green Toronto Festival Swap Zone. That day, he had picked up books on golf, sales, web analytics as well as Stick to your Vision by Maestro Wes Williams.

Jim remembered that Maestro Wes Williams (aka Mastro Fresh Wes), the legendary Toronto rapper, was coincidently performing on the main stage at the festival that day. Leaving the Swap Zone excited, he headed to Yonge-Dundas Square in hope of catching Maestro after his set. Lo and behold, as he was waiting by the side entrance, the Maestro himself emerged to see Jim excitedly holding the book he scored practically minutes earlier at the Swap Zone. Maestro flashed a smile that stretched from Toronto to eternity, signed the book and posed for an epic selfie with Jim.

The moral of the story: you just never know what can happen at the Swap Zone. It starts with you refreshing your media library and ends in making new friends or meeting your idol. Woot!

In other news, we are looking into hosting regular Movie Swap Meets for our film-loving Toronto swappers. What would that mean for you? Having ongoing access to a diverse selection of movies to inspire, edify, and entertain along with the chance of meeting fellow movie lovers. Do you dig the idea as much as we do? Then please help us get this idea off the ground and remember to be on our Swap Zone mailing list. That will keep you in the loop about future swaps.

Catch all you swappers and swapperinas out there at the next swap meet!
