A bit mad, I know...but I have plans to hop across the border at
the end of this month and have at least one more trip booked in
June.
For this April, my personal exemption amount will be way more than
we plan to return with and so, if you are after something in
Niagara Falls/Buffalo area and would like me to pick it up, you
wont be paying
any duties under $1600.
I will be using the allowance for alcohol, but wont need to for
cigarettes either.
Tobacco product
limits
Cigarettes: 200 cigarettes Cigars: 50 cigars Tobacco: 200 grams
of manufactured tobacco
Tobacco sticks: 200 tobacco sticks per adult (so x2 in this
case)
"If you include cigarettes, tobacco sticks or manufactured tobacco in your personal exemption, a partial exemption only may apply. You will have to pay a special duty on these products unless they have an excise stamp “DUTY PAID CANADA DROIT ACQUITTÉ.” You will find Canadian-made products sold at duty-free shops marked this way."
